Predictions:

75-63 URI

One year removed from their first Atlantic ten title in nearly twenty years, the URI Rams were selected to repeat as conference champions. After their beatdown of St. Bonaventure last week, there is no doubt who the best team in the Atlantic 10 is at this point in the season. Rhode Island brings one of the best two man punches in the conference in preseason all conference selection’s Jared Terell and E.C Mathews. Stanford Robinson, third in the conference in steals (2.3), joins the tandem and adds additional NCAA tournament experience to a team that nearly knocked off the Oregon Ducks in the round of thirty-two a season ago. In fact, it was Robinson who paced the Rams with a career-high 21 points in the loss. 6th man Jarvis Garret is also an extremely valuable contributor in the rotation.

On the other side, UMass enters with a three game winning streak and Luwane Pipkins playing the best of his career as he now sits at the top of the conference in scoring (20.2 PPG). Few would have predicted for this to be a meaningful game for the Minutemen early in the season, but it will surely serve as a marker to see how far this team has come. Playing their best basketball of the season, the Minutemen have an opportunity to knock of the kings of the conference. It will surely be an uphill battle, but hopefully they rise to the occasion.
